Best buy is Launching a digital-first, small-scale business on Tuesday in Monroe, North Carolina, which takes a very different approach than most of its “big” retail locations. The 5,000-square-foot location is only about 15 percent the size of the typical 35 to 40,000-square-foot Best Buy location and even smaller than many smaller Apple Stores, which typically range in size from 6,000 to 8,500 square feet.
Bloomberg reported Last year, Best Buy tested downsized locations from about 27,000 square feet down to as much as 15,000 square feet, but that’s a lot smaller and squeezed closer to that now closed Best Buy Mobile Footprint. This test store is located in the Charlotte area, where Best Buy also opened five other test stores last yearand sampled experiences ranging from a makeover to an outlet-style approach.
Unlike Best Buy’s outlet stores and big locations, which stock lots of big gadgets and electronics, this new store will stock a “curated selection” of Best Buy merchandise, including big TVs, computers, headphones, wearables, Mobile phones, etc. What doesn’t exist, however, are large devices.
The ‘digital first’ store experience spans Best Buy’s website and apps – there are also lockers for collecting online orders – but in store it starts with visitors being greeted at the entrance by a 7ft screen with information about the offer of the business will be welcomed this offer.
Similar to the Apple Store, you can browse items on the store floor, but with the exception of smaller items suitable for mobile self-checkout (charging cables, phone cases, and gift cards), most of them are simply displayed units. When you’re ready to buy something, all you have to do is scan a QR code on the product to start Best Buy’s Just Scan It process. Someone will go to the back and bring out the item for you to purchase.
Don’t worry if you’re worried about whether the location will feature blue-shirt interactions with people, as it includes members of the Geek Squad and has other customer consulting areas in the store. You can also get live shopping help while you’re in store with an expert from someone in Best Buy’s “virtual store” via voice call, video call, or online chat.
Best Buy is just one retailer reassessing its usual brick-and-mortar operating plans after changing customer behavior during the pandemic, such as we’ve seen with Walmart’s expansion Deliveries straight to your fridge. Amazon opened at the other end a brick and mortar clothing store In May, implementing new technology to improve in-person shopping for things that an online experience can’t replace.
