As we enter September, we continue to note that AMD and NVIDIA GPU prices are in free fall and are expected to fall further in the coming days.
NVIDIA and AMD GPU prices continue to fall below MSRP, RTX 3090 series falls below $1000 for the first time!
Last week, us reported how AMD and NVIDIA partners were poised to offer bigger discounts and cuts of their existing inventory to clear their stockpiles and prepare for next-gen GPUs. Graphics makers failed in their first attempt to launch decent batches of GPUs, but the second round, which will be more brutal than the first in terms of price cuts, is expected to hit retailers this month, and we’re already seeing signs of it.
At the time of writing this article (3/9/22), several NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti & RTX 3090 graphics cards have stumbled under the $1000-1100 mark. Over at Newegg, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card can be bought for as little as $959.99, a 36% drop from the MSRP of $1499 and the first time the series has dropped below $1000. At the same time, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is now available at retail $1099That’s an even bigger drop of 45% compared to its $2,000 MSRP.
Even the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which dropped below $900 a few weeks ago, is now being sold $799, a price drop of $100 since our last price article. That’s 33% below the card’s MSRP, which was set at $1199 at launch. Over at Newegg you can even find an RTX 3090 that is currently on sale $928.99. You can even find an RTX 3080 Ti over at BestBuy listed for as little as possible $739.99.
NVIDIA isn’t the only one affected by the price cuts, as AMD’s Radeon RX 6950 XT and RX 6900 XT are well below their MSRPs. The RX 6950 XT has also dropped below $1000 to $949 compared to its launch MSRP of $1099, while the Radeon RX 6900 XT has dropped its price of $699 from its launch MSRP of $999 retains US dollars.

at Baidu Forums, we can see price updates daily, with several high-end cards now selling for 35-45% below their MSRP. The RTX 3090 Ti, which had an MSRP of 14999 RMB (US$2173) in China, is currently priced at 7799 RMB or US$1130. The RTX 3090 and 3080 Ti have seen similar price drops, and the rest of the lineup is currently selling for 10-15% below MSRP. In the AMD camp, alongside the RX 6900 XT, which is down 40% in price compared to MSRP, the rest of the lineup is 20% to 30% below MSRP, representing a much higher mainstream price drop than NVIDIA.
If you think these are the lowest prices these cards would go to and now is a good time to buy a new graphics card then I would advise you to delay your purchase further as prices continue to fall and rumors spread With a possible launch of the RTX 40 series in a few months, you could see RTX 3090s selling for a lot less and even close to $500.
