It turns out that a Twitter account called TheRealInsider, the latest in a series of leakers posing as gaming industry insiders, was actually run by YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming. The account had convinced many in the scene that it was the real deal after being accurately teased New Assassin’s Creed games would was unveiled at Ubisoft’s 2022 Gaming Showcase. But it now appears that Allen was simply embargoed and privileged Information he received as an influencer. “I’m all sorry for my actions,” he wrote on Twitter, before deleting both accounts.

Allen has 189,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, where he posts how-to guides, voice actor interviews, and playthroughs of everything multiverse it elden ring. No one suspected him of secretly leaking industry marketing materials received under embargo until he accidentally did so responded to someone who tweeted a question to TheRealInsider as their main question Dan Allen Gaming Account. Thereafter, Bloomberg‘s Jason Schreier combed through past tweets from both accounts and discovered a lot of overlap.

“If this is legit – and looking at both accounts, they seem to be tweeting about the same games around the same time – that would explain how this is donetrue insider knew the AC Codenames,” Schreier wrote in a Discord comment. “He broke the embargo himself.”

But you didn’t have to speculate for long. Allen admitted it shortly afterwards and apologized. “I’m all sorry for my actions,” it said. “I am ashamed and disappointed in myself. I will take some time to reflect on my bad choices that will never happen again. To everyone who has supported me over the years, I really am [sic] I’m sorry I disappointed you.”

There’s a difference between when a journalist uncovers information they consider to be of public interest and presents it to the world, and when a person agrees to an embargo or an NDA, and a company shares information under the assumption that the details won’t be disclosed until a specified date and time.

TheRealInsider’s biggest claim to fame was the Ubisoft leakteases the Japanese open-world RPG called Project Red and several others Assassin’s Creed Play four days before the official showcase and before it was reported TryHardGuides and later the same day Bloomberg. Stephen Totilo from Ace Axios mention, that, That was on the same day that Ubisoft informed the press about the showcase (kotaku not participated). More often, however, the account has teased upcoming things like hands-on previews, as in the case of Square Enix Leave. This track record has recently made TheRealInsider a staple of the Gaming leaks and rumors subreddita popular watering hole for fans to speculate on upcoming releases based on industry reports and more often random tweets.

Allen’s outing takes place within a week of the Massive Grand Theft Auto VI Leak and a Nintendo Direct that once again failed to materialize many rumored games. It has sparked renewed debate about the value and ethics of leaking gaming industry secrets that can run the gamut from where to the next Stand out whether a studio has abused its employees. Many people are fed up with the rumor mill, and developers and marketers are understandably not fans of having their work discussed online outside of their control, especially when it comes to incomplete or inaccurate information. Does that mean it will be over soon? Consider me doubtful.

Coincidentally, the first source to break the news on TheRealInsider was a new publication by industry insider Tom Henderson called What Else, insider gaming. While some were criticism of the name, which is even called up on the About page, which encourages sources to “become an insider” by reaching out to them, the site collapsed immediately after launching yesterday when too many people tried to visit it at the same time . answered an obvious fan“Fuck criticism, see you inside.”
