Infinity Ward detailed some changes made to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 in response to feedback from the game’s pre-launch beta earlier this week.

And a Post on the studio’s websitethe team has broken down several categories of changes, including audio, UI, and motion. Most of these changes stem from multiplayer feedback, but will also apply to the story campaign.

The full list of changes is as follows:

Enemy Visibility

  • We’ve added diamond icons over enemies’ heads. This is intended to make it easier for players to clearly identify opponents in the game.
  • In addition, we further tweaked the lighting and contrast to improve enemy visibility.

Audio

  • We’ve shortened the overall range of footstep sounds, allowing enemy players to get closer to targets before they can spot footsteps. We’ve also further tweaked the audio of teammate footsteps, which based on feedback from the beta will now be quieter.
  • The volume range of the in-world activation sound effect for the Dead Silence Field upgrade has been drastically reduced.

Third person

  • Following feedback from Beta, sight aiming now stays in third-person POV for low-zoom optics. Only high-zoom optics (starting with ACOG and up) and specialty optics like hybrids and thermals return to first-person POV. We believe this will improve the third-person experience while keeping the gameplay balanced. Feedback on this mode has been very positive, and we’ll continue to explore its use as a modifier.

weapons

  • We’ve continued to optimize weapons throughout the game, both based on feedback from beta players and game data. Players can expect more details on weapon tuning as we continue to support post-launch.

user interface

  • We’ve been hard at work on numerous updates to our user interface that make accessing and customizing your loadout more seamless. We have improved the menu navigation and will continue to optimize our UX.

movement

  • Slide, Ledge Hang and Dive have been further refined. We also looked at some post-beta motion exploits.

matchmaking

  • We’ve made some changes aimed at reducing the resolution of the lobby between games. We look forward to testing this widely and getting feedback.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be released on Friday October 28th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, although the campaign is playable for those who have digitally pre-ordered the game since October 20th. check out IGN Campaign review (or watch the video version below), which described it as “underwhelming and overly familiar.”
