This morning, the gaming industry is shaking after a leaked screenshot from the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League revealed that the game will feature a Battle Pass system and six different in-game currencies. The header image above perfectly captures what gamers are thinking at the moment.
The screenshot appears to show the game’s main menu, and there’s a lot to unzip in the image. We take a closer look at the four main characters standing together on the screen. Each character has its own level and the word “Bot”. This seemingly confirms that bots take over the other roles when you’re not playing the game in co-op with friends.
There are also a few level numbers on the screen. Each character seems to contain two different ranks. There is 25 (26 in the case of Deadshot and King Shark) and there is another number “12”. What these stand for is currently unclear. Could be your player level and maybe an online level?
The elephant in the room, of course, is the layout of the top menu, which contains a number of tabs. There’s Squad, Looks, Loadout, Talents, Social, Battle Pass, Store, Codex, and Options. The two main concerns here are the Store and Battle Pass tabs. This undoubtedly confirms this Suicide Squad: Kill Justice will include a Battle Pass system as well as in-game purchases.
While Rocksteady hasn’t confirmed what players can expect from these tabs, you’ll likely need to spend money on a Battle Pass to unlock new “Looks.” The Store tab also gives us an idea that Rocksteady will feature a number of in-game purchases. It’s not clear what that is, but we can expect cosmetic items and maybe (hopefully not) XP boosts and other resources.

Speaking of resources, the picture also reveals that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will contain six different in-game resources that seem to play a big role in the game. They appear in the main menu, which means they are important.
There is virtually no information yet about these resources and what they do. However, alarm bells have been ringing and players are concerned. The last two superhero games that followed the Battle Pass and/or multiple resource path didn’t fare as well. Both Marvel’s Avengers and Gotham Knights featured similar mechanics that resulted in a pointless grind for currency and resources.
Not to mention that Gotham Knights and Marvel’s Avengers were also co-op games that put their online connectivity ahead of their gameplay and as a result would fail at launch.
Rocksteady has not yet commented on the leak. There is no doubt that damage control needs to be implemented now to ensure this for players Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not just another generic beat ’em up with heavy monetization.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is scheduled for release on May 26th this year for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
