Over on the The Nintendo Switch subreddit There was also some talk about the controls setup, but others are simply excited about the return of the iconic shooter:

BBQQA – “I am still overwhelmed by this incident. For years me and my buddies complained that we would never see this with a modern release, that it would be in IP rights hell. But somehow that happened. I don’t think the younger generation really understands the impact this game has had or how unlikely it is to come out on Switch and Xbox. It’s crazy.”

Odie_Odie – “I still play Goldeneye on my N64 about every year, play it for a few hours over the weekend before moving my system away and I have to say the controls aren’t too bad. It’s very similar to the original, I think. A lot of people realize that they just don’t like Goldeneye because of the controls. They’ve always been there lol.”

MillwrightWF – “…Just an older millennial disclaimer here, so 007 was a big part of growing up. At first I let my Fortnite obsessed son play and after he absolutely wrecked me in Fortnite that was more my style. He does the building and all, so he gets me. Haha no building in this game, my son and I knocked it out several times. But once he got the controls down, he wanted to keep playing! It’s looking pretty good. Not the mess I expected. No slowdown from the original. I’m looking forward to having a little more time tomorrow.”

And here’s what the community has to offer on our sister site Pure Xbox said about the Xbox version of the game:

gamecuber – “As a veteran of the original game from back then, this version plays better than ever. The modern control scheme on Xbox brings it into the present with kicks and screams. I briefly tried the Switch version with the original control layout and it would definitely benefit from a real N64 controller. The Xbox version played brilliantly with two thumb sticks.”

Bucky – “Between the campaign on Agent difficulty on Switch last night and this morning. I’ve just tried a few levels on Xbox and thought it felt better on Switch, although it required a little button remapping.”

SugarSkullM – “I love this, but I can’t deny that the nostalgia factor (and power) is strong with this one. Still fun after all these years.”

Techno92LFC – “There is no doubt that along with other people I would have loved to see the Xbox Live Arcade version, so I don’t understand why we don’t have it. Maybe someone here knows? However, it’s amazing to see this on an Xbox console and with updated controls.”
